Drink of the Day: Rocky Dane

If the Cherry Daiquiri of a few days ago was a real drinker's variation on a sometimes corrupted classic, the Rocky Dane is a completely manned-up version of same.

It consists of gin, kirschwasser, dry vermouth, and cherry liqueur, none in a portion smaller than half an ounce. So there's a lot of wallop there. The tart cherry flavor is dominant, but the kirschwasser is pronounced, too, and may be the flavor that lasts the longest, thanks to the burn.

Overall, the Rocky Dane has a dry, crisp flavor. Without the cherry-ness, it would probably be too much. But the little bit of fruit flavor takes the edge off just enough to create a tough but pleasant cocktail.

Rating: Four glasses.
