Drink of the Day: Queen Elizabeth

The Queen Elizabeth is essentially a Martini with a jolt of Benedictine. And there's nothing wrong with that at all; I like them both.

The drink has good bite and warmth, thanks to that Benedictine. (Remember, that's an herbal liqueur.) The Queen Elizabeth goes down smooth and, for its ingredients, has a soft, pleasant flavor.

One thing is for sure: You'll have to like alcohol to like this one. There's nothing fruity about it, and the booze flavors are strong. That's just fine with me. It's a good variation on Martini, if you (or someone you're trying to wow with your bar knowledge) is looking for a change of pace from that classic.

Rating: Four glasses.
